https://be-alice.blogspot.com/2017/09/31-days-of-decluttering-letting-go_29.html

Hello friends!

As part of #blogtober this year I am dedicating the month of October to declutter and let go of any unnecessary physical and emotional baggage.

October is the first proper autumn month, the leaves change their colour, and everything slowly beings to retreat and die. I love fall for its releasing qualities because it means making room for something new and fresh to come. Just like the trees shed their leaves, I invite you to take part in this 31 day challenge and to let go of anything that is no longer serving you.

We will start decluttering and letting go on Sunday October 1st.

Here is an overview of the challenge ahead.

The Goal

Before embarking on this journey, it's very helpful to set your intentions for the challenge. Overall, the goal of this challenge is of course to minimise your trash, to declutter your physical space and also your mental space. But the motivation to do so is different for everybody, and it's important to get clear about your own intentions. Why are you doing this challenge? What are you working towards? Are there any obstacles, and how can you overcome them?

Here is my personal list as an example:

• having a clean, tidy space
• not feeling weighed down or stressed by my belongings
• getting rid of the unnecessary
• creating a space that feels freeing, inspiring and creative
• having less things to worry about
• spending less time tidying up my mess
• feeling completely comfortable in my home
• making the cleaning process easier
• being surrounded by only the things I love
• not having multiple I-don't-really-know-what-to-do-with-this-stuff piles
• focusing on what is important and appreciating what I already have

Prepare for the challenge

Don't worry, you won't have to study for a test or anything like that, but there are a few things to keep in mind before starting the challenge.

1. Safe the challenge checklist below.

To make sticking to the plan easier, transfer the daily tasks into your calendar, or print out the checklist below. That way you are more likely to stick to the daily assignments and not get scared by the upcoming challenge.

2. Make time for 30 minutes each day for your daily decluttering session.

Set a timer and get going! If you aren't finished after 30 minutes, you are free to put everything back to its place and return to it another time. Of course, if you want to devote more time to each session than 30 minutes, do it! Just don't overdo it, or you won't have any energy left for the next session.

 3. Don't stress yourself.

If you have to skip a day because there's no time to squeeze in a decluttering session that day, that is okay. Just make up for it on another day. Or do one of the mental decluttering tasks instead.

4. Make sure you have four boxes, bags or baskets at hand.

During the decluttering process, you will sort the items you no longer like or need into four categories: sell, donate, recycle, toss. Each category will go into its designated box or bag, making it easier to keep your space tidy and organized. Please keep in mind: the point of decluttering and minimizing is NOT to create as much trash as possible! So try to recycle and re-purpose as many things as possible, and please don't throw away anything that might make another person happy.

5. Everything has to find a home – if it has no home, get rid of it.

As heartless as this sounds, this is one of the best rules to go by in order to create and maintain a clutter free home. Homeless items are usually those that don't have any real use to us and only take away space. Be ruthless, and give away those items that don't seem to fit anywhere in your home.

6. Take before and after pictures.

This isn't mandatory of course, but keeping a record of your decluttering process will a) help you appreciate the work that you have done so far, and b) motivate you to keep going. Believe me, looking at your before's and after's is so satisfying!

 IT'S PARTY TIME!

Welcome to another round of Friday Favorites! Don't these watercress power balls look beautiful? Watercress is a potent little plant that is rich in vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin A, iron, zinc as well as minerals like copper, calcium, potassium, magnesium, manganese and phosphorus. As a powerful antioxidant it is used both as a natural remidy and as a kitchen ingredient with a peppery taste. These power balls combine both qualities and make for a delicious and nutritious snack!

As I am still on the Canary Islands, there won't be any weekly link favourites, so let's get straight to the party!

https://be-alice.blogspot.com/2017/09/apple-walnut-streusel-loaf-cake-vegan.html

I know, I'm on a little apple kick at the moment, haha! But that's good right? An apple a day...

After making my healthy apple cake using wild apples my boyfriend and I went "wildcrafting" again, and this time we found a wild walnut tree that bore fruit, so we went home with a couple of walnuts – that was the first time I ever saw a real life walnut tree! Unfortunately the walnuts aren't ripe yet (I think), but they served as inspiration for this loaf cake creation that I made as a healthy-ish dessert aka not-so-healthy snack.

Actually this heavy, moist loaf deserves the name "cake" rather than "bread", as the buttery streusel topping makes it extra scrumptious. (Plus, I'd rather like to think of it as a healthy-ish cake than an unhealthy bread 😂) The flavour of tart, tender apples, crunchy walnuts and warming cinnamon makes this loaf cake enjoyable with your morning coffee or afternoon tea. Wholesome ingredients like whole grain spelt flour, organic apples and banana also make this into a semi-healthy snack during the day ;)

IT'S PARTY TIME!

Hi there. I'm currently house sitting my uncle's property on the Canary Islands. The mornings and nights are chilly, but during the day the sun shines brightly and illuminates the orange trees and cacti around my uncles house. Perfect time for ice cream! Luckily, this recipe for Pumpkin Spice Frozen Yogurt Pops I'm featuring today is also enjoyable when you're not on the Canaries. Warming pumpkin spices make this a great fall treat. To make this vegan just use vanilla soy yoghurt instead, and replace honey with maple syrup.

Some other things that inspired me this week:

  • This autumnal apple peanut butter overnight oats recipe that can be enjoyed both cold and warm
  • This clever round-up of 20 ways to use and repurpose old towels that Lisa shared over on her website
  • Jennifer's cosy looking homemade pumpkin spice latte that can be easily made vegan by using plant based milk
  • Mary's idea to turn some cheap pieces into an actually beautiful dollar store fall wreath
  • These protein packed double chocolate banana energy bites that are rich in nutrition, healthy fats and fiber
  • I just have to share Rebecca's beautiful-as-ever fall outfit as well as her apple picking post with you – the photography skills!!
  • Lastly: oh my gosh, how cute (and frickin amazing!) is this DIY Narnia Wardrobe Reading Nook that turns this furniture makeover into something truly magical!! Okay, I'll try and calm down now...

Now let's party!

https://be-alice.blogspot.com/2017/09/20-outdoor-date-ideas.html

My boyfriend and I are rather active, nature-bound people. As much as we enjoy lounge around on the couch and binge-watching Netflix series every now and then, we both love to get outside and go on little adventures.

Here are 20 budget-friendly ideas for dates that don't take place at home or in a fancy restaurant.

20 Outdoor Date Ideas

01. Get up before dawn and have a breakfast picnic watching the sunrise – pack a warm blanket and a thermos bottle with tea or coffee though in case it's going to be cold.

02. Go for a bike ride followed by a picnic. Bring a basket with food, a blanket, maybe some lemonade or a card game.

03. Go for a hike or a nature walk, and have a scavenger hunt.

04. Fly kites or play Frisbee.

05. Go star gazing. Grab a blanket, lay down on the grass and stare at the stars and try to find your favourite constellations.

06. Go roller skating or ice-skating together.

07. Pull up to a drive-in movie with your favourite snacks at hand and get cozy in the back of the car.

08. Go city sight-seeing. Play tourist in a city near your hometown, or sight see your own city.

09. Go fruit picking. Then return home to make something with your harvest.

10. Go out for a breakfast date – that's the least expensive meal option, plus it's more special because people usually go out at night!

11. Build a campfire for two, roast marshmallows or make s'mores, and cuddle in blankets.

12. Go to a fair, have fun, and make out at the top of a Ferris wheel.

13. People-watch in a park, and make up stories for each couple you see.

14. If either of you is into photography, spend the day walking around a new neighbourhood, or a nearby town, and look for fun places to take photos – or just enjoy the view with an ice cream :)

15. Watch the sunset from the hood of a car – or from the top of a hill.

16. Get adventurous together and rent a kayak, canoe, or paddle boat at a local lake or beach. Pack a lunch and stop half way through to sit on a rock or on the waterfront, and eat together.

17. Go for a cheeky night time swim.

18. Go to some local book stores and leave secret notes in your favourite books.

19. In summer, do a road trip to the sea (if possible; otherwise to the nearest lake) and find yourself a hidden spot. Take bikini pictures, go for a swim together (maybe even go skinny dipping), sunbathe, build sand castles, and have a little private barbecue party by the beach.

20. In winter, go sledding, build a snow man, have a snowball fight, take photos of you muffled up and covered in snow, then make hot chocolate at home and warm up under some big blankets...

Do you have any more ideas for outdoor dates? Leave them in the comments below! I hope I could inspire you a little :)

https://be-alice.blogspot.com/2017/09/weekly-meal-plan-cw-36.html

Hi guys,

this will be the last Weekly Meal Plan for September as my boyfriend and I are going on a family vacation with my parents and my granny until the end of the month, and we are probably going to eat out most of the time so there's no point in doing a meal plan for that time. But don't worry, there will be other posts waiting for you :)

Until October, enjoy this overview of what my boyfriend and I cooked last week!

IT'S PARTY TIME!

Hi guys. Welcome to another round of Friday Favorites! This week Stefanie over at The Style Safari impressed me with her gorgeous 60s inspired handmade lemon two piece set that turned out absolutely amazing! This lemon print screams summer holidays and sundown cocktails, don't you think? Who would have thought that Stefanie even designed the print herself!? That's so cool!

Here are some other things that inspired me this week:

  • These two home canning recipes by Angie that both look just beautiful and make me want to get into canning myself
  • A list of 10 awesome movies that you might have missed – I have to admit, I've only watched three of them (Zootopia, Captain Fantastic and The Nice Guys), but those are definitely awesome!
  • This gorgeous shiny metallic succulent wreath that Jessa came up with – such a great take on autumn wreaths!
  • Speaking of: this Halloween wreath also looks super cute – er, I mean spooky
  • This beautiful DIY calendula salve that Sophie made
  • A truly inspiring guide to cleaning out & organizing the linen closets that will transform your overflowing closet into a bright and open storage space
  • Also: Drooling over this super moist and chocolaty looking double chocolate zucchini bread and the equally soft and delicious looking honey applesauce cake – I need to make a vegan version of both!

https://be-alice.blogspot.com/2017/09/9-ways-oil-and-sugar-are-great-for-your-body.html

Sugar and oil are common ingredient available in everyone's kitchen – but did you know they are actually amazing for your body?

When it comes to our diets, sugar and oil are known for their negative effect on our health, contributing to weight gain, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. If you were hoping for this blog post to be about how healthy the consumption of sugar and oil is, I'm sorry, it just isn't. However, when it comes to your beauty routine, both sugar and oil have amazing benefits for our body.

Here are eight DIY body care uses for sugar and oil.

Hi food friends,

my boyfriend is cooking a lovely smelling dinner as I type this, and I can't wait to try some! Today's meal plan holds a variety of cooked, baked and "raw" dishes, as well as desserts. Enjoy!

IT'S PARTY TIME!

Fall is here (well, sort of), and I'm ready for fall themed blog posts! The Six Gorgeous Fall Wreaths that Leslie shared are definitely a step in the right direction. Whether rustic, crafty, or traditional – there's something for everyone in her round up.

Here are some other favourites of the week:
  • A powerful homemade ginger tea that boosts the immune system, acts as an antibiotic, and helps with overall gut health
  • These fudgy kidney bean brownies that look incredibly gooey and chocolaty (use vegan butter and plant-based milk to make it vegan)
  • Lisa's useful tips on 7 ways to remove sticky jar labels in order to reuse them as food storage, smoothie glasses or vases
  • This homemade pumpkin pie lip scrub for silky smooth lips that looks too delicious to not lick your lips (which you totally could due to its natural ingredients)
  • Karren's tips for giving yourself a salon quality pedicure at home that saves money and leaves you with soft smooth feet
  • Have you ever thought of combining green tea, lemon juice, peppermint and cucumber? If not, you might want to try this cucumber peppermint tea that is not only super refreshing, but also super healthy and hydrating
  • Look at these DIY beeswax anise fall candles that Katrin created! Aren't they lovely? Environmentally friendly, non toxic, and with a lovely anise and honey scent! Fall is in the air – literally :)

https://be-alice.blogspot.com/2017/09/healthy-apple-walnut-cake-vegan.html

When I think of autumn, I think of warm apple cakes and chai tea. Of snuggling into a warm sweater and watching a movie while the smell of the freshly baked cake fills your house. Last Sunday I did just that.
Apple season is here (at least in Germany) and I couldn't be more thrilled. On Saturday my boyfriend and I went to a nearby wild apple tree and picked two bags full of apples (mostly my boyfriend, as you can see below 😜). Since those are pretty sour when eaten raw, they are ideal for baking! And so I took a recipe that my mom came up with a while ago and made this healthier version of a classic German apple cake that is dairy-free, egg-free, wheat-free and refined sugar free.

This was also a great opportunity to make use of the rotating cake stand that my mom gave me recently and of the cute copper cups that I got at a second hand store a while ago and that go perfectly with the rustic fall mood.

This apple cake is simple to throw together, nutty, full of fall flavour (I mean: apples, walnuts, cinnamon and marzipan?!), and 100% vegan.

https://be-alice.blogspot.com/2017/09/weekly-meal-plan-cw-34.html

Hey there,

It's the first day of September, and thus the first official day of autumn – at least in meteorological seasons. It also happens to be the first week that my boyfriend and I introduced our favourite autumn dish into our weekly meal plan: pumpkin stew. Or, more precisely: hokkaido pumpkin stew 😍

Here's what we cooked last week!

IT'S PARTY TIME!

This week I'm featuring this super adorable tutorial for a Handmade Animal Planter from Resin Crafts Blog that requires nothing but a small clay pot and modeling clay. Super easy to make, great project to do with kids – and did I mention, it's super adorable?! I think an elephant would be sooo cute as well, like you said. Or maybe a squirrel, or a little rabbit... Anyway!

Here are some other favourites of the week:

  • These five simmer pot recipes for fall that are made with completely natural ingredients and will make your house smell amazing
  • This gorgeous DIY peacock decor that is budget friendly and quick to put together
  • These banana chocolate breakfast popsicles and this blackberry blueberry sorbet with chia pudding that are absolutely droolworthy, don't you think?
  • This hilarious visualization of what the animals from animated movies would look like if they were people that is just so on point, it's hilarious! Which is your favourite?!
  • And last but not least this simple recipe for spiced almonds that Angie shared on her website and that make for a great, fall-flavoured snack
Let the party begin!
