http://be-alice.blogspot.com/2017/04/princess-leia-buns-may-4th.html

Besides the vegan Lembas bread and Bilbo's poppy seed cake that I made for our Fantasy Murder Mystery Dinner last winter, this is probably the nerdiest baking I've done so far. And I love it!! Don't you?

For all of you who might not recognize this lady – it's Princess Leia from Star Wars (RIP Carrie Fisher!), and those cinnamon chocolate buns look just like her famous hair buns!! Besides from fitting perfectly onto Leia's head, those vegan yeast buns taste wonderful, too. My non-vegan flatmate tried one of them and immediately ordered 20 more, haha!

The concept of this blogpost was inspired by the wonderful recipe by Fiction Food Café.

Hey guys,

here is another week menu for you, showing you what I and my boyfriend eat on a daily basis. Enjoy! :)

IT'S PARTY TIME!

What's up, party people? Are you ready for another round of inspiring and getting inspired?

Here's what I've been up to this week:

  • Got the official approval for my master thesis with the compelling title "Creative Writing and transnational narrative strategies" :)
  • Still working hard to cut out all sorts of added sugar from my diet for the next two weeks.
  • Dreaming of those white chocolate truffles. Oh and also of those gorgeous salted caramel rose truffles. (drool)
  • Blown away by Angie's DIY Mason Jar Candle. At first I thought "oh she used a Mason jar to fill it with wax, neat idea but kinda boring" but then I read the post and realised that she made a Mason jar from wax entirely!! How cool is that?! Would make such a great (Mother's Day?) gift as well!
  • Discovered a new youtube channel about nutrition and minimalism called Pick Up Limes and am already in love with it.
  • Also found and fell in love with the minimalism, veganism and DIY themed youtube channel by Ela Gale. So inspiring!
  • Still looking for a place to stay/sleep in London. If you happen to know anyone in central London who would be willing to let me and my boyfriend sleep on their sofa or something, do let me know :)
  • Also still watching 13 Reasons Why with my flatmates – we've all sort of proceeded to code-name it "13 reasons to nag" because it seems that the characters get more and more annoying and stupid as the show continues. Who agrees?

But now on to the party!

Hello and welcome back to my blog!

I quickly want to update you guys on my sugar detox and what it's been like for the past 14 days – if you haven't read my previous blog post on this, go ahead and check it out here.

Today is actually Day 17, but to be fair I slipped up during the Easter weekend, so yeah, those days don't really count. Here are the challenges, benefits and also some weird observations I have faced on my sugar-free journey so far!

Hey guys,

here is another week menu for you, showing you what I ate last week and at Easter. Enjoy! :)

IT'S PARTY TIME!

Happy Earth Day everybody!

In honour of Earth Day (on April 22nd) I'm featuring 9 Easy Ways to Replace Plastic Wrap by my fellow co-hostess today. It's so easy to do something for our planet's health, so please don't be too shy or above it all!

I hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend! Mine was pretty great – I spent four days at the Baltic Sea with my boyfriend's family, and the weather was windy yet sunny! But now I'm back, still finishing up my master thesis and taking care of my blog :) Here's what has been going on this week:

  • After my little Easter vacation I kind of struggled with getting back into my routine, especially in terms of working out, but now I'm back with doing yoga again :)
  • Also still trying to establish a mindful morning routine that isn't consumed by replying to emails, writing comments on blog posts and drowning in the digital world.
  • I'm currently planning ANOTHER trip (I know, the amount of vacations over the past 2 years has been kind of crazy, but blame my world-travelling boyfriend for that!), this time to one of my favourite cities: London (once again). Any recommendations what to do besides the usual sight-seeing?
  • If you are into blogging yourself, here's a helpful guide on writing a blog post. To be honest, I'm never this organized, but I do write down my ideas on paper and take the pictures AFTER writing the post to match the content.
  • Now that it's spring and the fruit flies are about to start popping up, I'm looking into natural fly repellents. Lemons and cloves sound like a great and easy way to keep those fruit flies out of your kitchen! Does anyone know a similarly easy natural mosquito repellent?
  • My mouth is totally watering at the thought of biting into these homemade soft pretzels! It seems they are a little time-consuming, but I'm sure they are worth it!
  • Speaking of mouth-watering, here is a great collection of easy and healthy snack ideas that I stumbled upon just yesterday! Those peanut butter bites look heavenly. And avocado strawberry toast?! Yum!
  • Last but not least, I read another article on food photography tips. Huge recommendation for anyone trying to make their meals as photogenic as possible :)

But now on to the party!

http://be-alice.blogspot.com/2017/05/diy-chocolate-mocha-body-scrub.html

Whether for yourself or as a birthday gift for a friend or for Mother's Day (which is on May 14th, just saying) this homemade body scrub is an absolute dream. I myself have been using it for the past couple of weeks, and I love it!!

Besides exfoliating and oiling your skin, this body scrub combines the delicious scents of chocolate, vanilla and coffee, and basically makes you smell like a cup of warm chocolate mocha.

Made from all natural ingredients, easy to make and great for your skin!

Hey guys,

here is another week menu for you! Enjoy! :)

IT'S PARTY TIME!

hello hello,

are you getting excited for Easter already? I know I am, but mostly because that means that I will have a mini vacation of 5 work-free days!! This week has been a little stressful because I was working on my master thesis (the usual) and trying to find the solution to a problem I'm having right now, I'm also packing for the weekend getaway, plus preparing a few vegan snacks for the trip, and also getting birthday gifts for my boyfriend's sister. So basically that's what me week looks like so far:

  • Had another meeting (or rather Skype conference) with my supervisors and it went pretty good. Went home with 6 new books on narratology from the library (sigh.)
  • If you're into Avatar: The Last Airbender, or you just like taking those "personality tests", this Avatar test is a great one as it consists of 123 questions, goes really into depth and takes about 20 minutes to complete. I turned out to be a waterbender :)
  • While waiting for season 5 of Prison Break to be available on Netflix, my flatmates and I have started watching the Netflix original 13 Reasons Why. So far I'm into it, but we're only on episode 3. Have you watched it?
  • Speaking of Prison Break, if you have 2 minutes, please watch this moving speech by Wentworth Miller (aka Michael) which shows that he is not only a great actor, but also a beautiful human being inside and out :)
  • As of last Friday, I'm cutting added sugar out of my diet (I even made a blog post about it), so I'm making this super good looking sugar-free carrot cake as well as my naturally sugar-free banana bread for Easter! Yumm.
  • As a vegan, I'm shocked that a bunch of the 10 Tofu Hacks Kaila shared at last week's linky party were totally new to me!! Such as baking it into bars or blending it in a smoothie – like, what?! I don't usually feature the same blog twice in a row, but this blog post was so helpful (at least to vegetarians and vegans) that I needed to share this with you!!
  • I'm very much in love with Grace's list of 10 Self-Care Activities for Spring. So inspiring!
  • Also: Totally obsessing over Simply Kenna's quirky cute youtube channel. Full stop.

But now on to the party!

Seeing as I'm almost 1 week into my sugar-free month, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to share my current go-to sugar-free treat! Because it's hard to quit sugar (i.e. chocolate), let me tell you.

For this recipe, you will only need 3 ingredients that are probably already in your cupboard, and 5 minutes of your time. Let's go!

http://be-alice.blogspot.com/2017/04/no-sugar-challenge-quitting-sugar-for-a-month.html

Do you get an energy slump in the afternoon? Do you need something sweet after lunch or dinner? Are you unable to eat just one piece of cake and walk away? Then this blog post is for you, my friend!

There's something that has been bothering me. Over the past few weeks (and after quite a long period of feeling kind of unattracted to chocolate and sweet treats) I somehow have slowly acquired the habit to end the night with something sweet, such as a piece of dark chocolate, a handful of gummies, homemade chocolate popcorn, homemade banana chocolate cookies or a chocolate-coated rice cake. That "dessert" habit just kind of crept into my daily routine without me even realizing it. Until now!

I'm not a doctor, nor am I a nutritionist. However, I'm a sugar addict! And you are, too.

Hey guys,

here is another week menu for you! I am currently house-sitting at my parents' and making use of their space to work, cook, watch Netflix, sit on the balcony... I could get used to having a house to myself :)

IT'S PARTY TIME!

hello dear internet friends,

today is the last day of my two weeks of house-sitting at my parents' house. My boyfriend has already gone home two days ago, and I'm enjoying the peaceful quiet of being alone. Here's what my week has been like:

  • Met up with my supervisor of my master thesis and finally got the green light for the registration of my thesis. (yay!) Also, I'm about 80% done, so double-yay!
  • With me house-sitting at my parents' without my usual "photo equipment" at hand, my options for blog posts were kinda limited. Which is why I went for this spring gift basket (not sure how I feel about it though). Take a look if you like.
  • I also visited my baby tree that has outgrown me and even my 6'2'' tall boyfriend by now! (yes, we are technically plant parents, lol)
  • Finally watched the final episodes of Prison Break (season 4 that is) which to be honest weren't that great. Season 1 was amazing, season 2 was still very good, season 3 was okay and season 4 was just... nah. (not sure what to expect of season 5 that is starting this week...)
  • If you are an introvert like me, this open letter from an introvert will probably resonate with you. If you are an extrovert, this letter will help you understand us introverts :)
  • Going to make this coconut banana chocolate snack cake by Jenn for a friends birthday tomorrow (with vegan eggs though). Should be great :)
  • If I do find any time, I will also bake this vegan and gluten-free chocolate chip coffee cake by Kaila that I'm featuring this week because it looks dang delicious! Unfortunately my boyfriend doesn't like the taste of coffee at all - so I guess I'll just have to eat the cake all by myself... shame ;)

But now on to the party!
