Love Lotion Bars for Valentine's Day

reading time: 2 min

Hello lovey!
These heart shaped lotion bars don't just look adorable, they also have an aphrodisiac effect due to the added essential oils. When it comes to intoxicating scents, vanilla is at the top of the list, along with rose, the ancient symbol of love, and lavender, which not only helps relax the mind, but also stimulates your senses, too.

In other words, these nourishing lotion bars are not only great for moisturizing your skin and relaxing your muscles, but also to spark desire and set the mood for a romantic evening :)

Ingredients

1/4 cup organic beeswax
1/4 cup organic cocoa butter OR shea butter (or a mix of both)
1/4 cup organic sweet almond oil
10 drops rose EO
8 drops vanilla EO
5 drops lavender EO
a handful of dried pink rose petals and/or dried lavender flowers

also:
2 heart-shaped silicone molds

Directions

In a heat-safe container (e.g. a bowl or an old mason jar) add the wax and the almond oil. Fill a small sauce pan with a few inches of water. Place the heat-safe container in the saucepan. Bring water around the bowl to a gentle boil. Once it's boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer. Then add cocoa butter and/or shea butter. Stir frequently until melted.

TIP: You could also melt this in the microwave, using 60 second bursts!

Remove from heat. Add essential oils – a mix of rose, vanilla and lavender is lovely, but feel free to change the fragrance up to your liking! Stir.

Place a pinch lavender buds and/or rose petals into both mold cavities (I use a heat-proof heart-shaped muffin tray). Use a spoon to cover the buds and petals with a bit of the melted mixture – this helps the flowers stay in place. Allow to cool and harden for about 30 seconds.

Pour the remaining mixture into the molds. Set aside and allow to cool and harden completely. You can place the mold in the freezer for 30-60 minutes instead.

That's it!Store in a jar or in tins out of direct heat and hot areas. I keep mine in the refrigerator.

To Use

Whenever your skin feels dry or rough, rub the bar over your skin. (As demonstrated on my boyfriend's hairy arms below, lol.) The heat of your body will melt it just enough to leave a light moisturising layer that absorbs much faster than any salves or body butters do. You can also warm them before applying to your skin by rubbing between your hands, then rub the melted lotion on your hands over parts of your body to moisturise.

Personally, I use this after showering to soothe my sensitive skin.

These lotion bars are also great for a self-massage or a partner massage!
